You can imagine my surprise when, after posting my last post last night (see “President” Christie’s siren call below), I awakened to an enticing email from Don Sico, a guy I’ve known for years stretching back to a time even before his stints as the right hand man for a couple of Republican speakers, Chuck Haytaian and Jack Collins, in the 1990s.
In recent years, Don’s been running a consulting business from South Jersey and was among the first Jersey political bloggers that I recall.
Don’s latest email carried the subject header: “New Website to Draft Chris Christie.” I wondered whether he was serious or not and clicked through the link from Don’s blog (where he takes pains to note that he “has no affiliation with Governor Christie or the New Jersey Republican Party”) and on to the website he’s launched to do just that. Turns out he’s dead serious and attempting to gain enough supporters to draft Christie for president of the United States.
I won’t go into Don’s reasons and rationales. He’s got that all laid out on the site. I just bring it up as yet another example of what in political circles at least is, if not an outright frenzy, and it’s surely not that, then at least a parlor game diversion for the so-called “political class.”
